Oil on panel, 16 x 20.
This was painted in Sarasota, FL on South Lido Beach. I approached this painting thinking mostly about design and color. How similar colors in the buildings also related to colors in the the dunes. I wanted both the landscape and architectual elements to play off one another and to not feel separate. It's easy for buildings that are further away to get overworked with rendering and detail, causing the painting to become top heavy. My goal was to be suggestive in my application of windows so that they would not jump forward but to still feel apart of the overall building structure.

Thank you Jesus! You would never guess that it was probably the windiest day I could have chosen to paint in. I was gripping onto my easel and palette for dear life. :)
